Preventing the Flu

PREVENTING THE FLU

PREVENTING THE FLU

The following are steps you can take to prevent the onset of influenza (the flu):

· Wash your hands – Use soap and hot water; frequent hand washing ensures that germs won’t spread

· Cover your nose and mouth – Use a tissue or your sleeve when you cough or sneeze

· Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth

· Get plenty of rest – People who are run down and tired are more susceptible to the risk

· Manage stress – Too much stress can weaken your immune system

· Don’t refill disposable water bottles – The bottles accumulate germs and should not be reused or shared

· Get plenty of exercise – Exercise helps boost your immune system

· Eat a healthy diet – foods rich in vitamins A, C and E, such as eggs, fish, citrus fruits, and spinach, to name a few, bolster your immune system

· Cover your mouth when you cough to avoid spreading the germs

· If you are sick, do not go to work or school

· Avoid close contact with people who are sick, if possible
